KEPCO 30% contract power floor

If your maximum demand falls below 30% of contract power, you are paying a basic charge on power you never used. Two numbers tell you whether you are caught by it.

What the verdict is based on

Article 68(1) of KEPCO’s Basic Terms of Supply sets the basic charge for a customer with a maximum-demand meter on «직전 12개월 중 12·1·2·7·8·9월분과 당월분의 최대수요전력 중 가장 큰 값» — the largest maximum demand among the December, January, February, July, August and September portions of the past 12 months and the current month — and provides that where that figure falls below 30% of contract power, 30% of contract power is used as the basis instead. Under paragraph 2 of the same article, a customer without a meter (most low-voltage sites) is billed on contract power as it stands.

So the verdict comes down to a single comparison — is maximum demand ÷ contract power under 30%. When we ran the sites we operate through the same test, this one item accounted for most of the money we found.
